Major British artist of
the 19th century. Sir Edwin Henry Landseer born 7th march 1802 and died October
1st 1873. Sir Edwin Landseer painted mainly, Horses, Dogs and Stags. with the
major paintings such as Monarch of the Glen hanging in major art galleries
collections such as the Tate Gallery, Wallace Collection and the Victorian and
Albert Museum . Sir Edwin Landseer is also known for major sculptors such as the
Lions at the base of Nelsons Column in Trafalgar Square, London. Art
Just 13 Sir Edwin Landseer exhibited at the Royal Academy. and at the age of
only 24 was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy. and gained an
Academician of the Royal Academy in 1831. In 1850 he was knighted. His
name is associated to the Newfoundland bread of Dog, due to his many paintings
of the Mixed coloured Black and White Newfoundland dogs,. often shown in
his paintings . Sir Edwin Landseer is buried in St Paul's Cathedral London
